Global Agricultural Commodity Prices Post the Biggest Gain in Four Years

The Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index rose 13% in the three months through September, the biggest quarterly gain since March 2022. What drove it and what it means for growers.

Three factors stand out: tensions between Russia and Ukraine disrupting the flow of grain and oilseeds from the Black Sea, a key global supplier; a strengthening El Nino hurting forecasts for products such as palm oil and cocoa; and India coming off its weakest monsoon season in a decade.

US-China trade expectations also supported prices. The two sides announced that Beijing would lower tariffs on some US farm products, including wheat and corn. However, it is noted that for optimism to turn into a lasting recovery in grain markets, a sustained rise in Chinese demand will be needed.

In volatile times like these, knowing where a product comes from and with which documents it was bought makes price planning easier. See our Products page for our produce.
